The 3 Days Rwanda gorilla trekking tour takes you to Volcanoes National Park located in north western Rwanda. Trek and meet face to face with one of the 10 habituated mountain gorillas in Rwanda on this three days’ gorilla safari with African Birding Journeys. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, meet and greet your driver guide from African Birding Journeys. You will have a brief guide through the itinerary and thereafter drive through the clean and beautiful Kigali city. If time allows, tour through Kigali to Kimironko market, Kigali genocide memorial Centre and other attractions in the city Centre. Thereafter, drive north-westwards to Volcanoes National Park home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The drive time from Kigali city to Volcanoes Park is roughly 3 hours.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
The day for meeting gorillas is finally here! Rise up early, have breakfast, and with your packed lunch transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters. You will first register with the Park wardens and thereafter assemble for a pre-gorilla trekking briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. You will be together in groups of eight and allocated a specific gorilla family to trek. Interestingly, you will be served with a cup of hot coffee at the park headquarters while traditional dancers entertain you as a welcome to the Land of a thousand Hills. The hike to meet the endangered mountain gorillas start at 8:00 am and the actual time to spend in the jungle range between 2-7 hours depend on om where the gorillas will be located. Follow the guidance and cautions of your ranger to avoid any troubles in the jungle. After meeting the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence. Enjoy the magical encounter with the endangered gorillas, take pictures capture videos and have fun with the man’s close relatives. In addition to gorillas, Volcanoes National Park is home to the endangered golden monkeys, Forest Elephants, colobus monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Thereafter, hike down and transfer to your lodge for refreshment
Day 3: Iby’iwacu cultural village & Departure
After sunrise breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to Iby’iwacu cultural village. There you will be introduced to the norms, traditions, and cultures of Rwanda people and what makes them unique from other countries. Take part in local activities such as peeling, grinding, and cooking. Traditional dances and songs are also performed to entertain and welcome you to the Land of thousand Hills. In the afternoon, drive to Kigali airport for your connecting flight.
